Tradition with a Twist
Our Mission
Freeport Pretzel Company’s mission is to elevate everyday snacking with our handcrafted pretzels by combining local pride and time-honored traditions.
History of the Freeport Pretzel
Dating back to the 1860’s, Freeport became home to many German settler’s who brought with them traditions, recipes, and craftsmanship. Among them were skilled bakers like John Billerbeck, known for his hand-twisted pretzels that helped shape the city’s identity.
Roughly 55 years later, in 1926, that legacy was cemented when the local high school adopted the name “Pretzels” as their mascot. Decades after that, in 2003, Freeport officially embraced its heritage, earning the nickname Pretzel City USA.
